Northern California Pirate Festival

Posted by Ray Marshall on June 22, 2009 in Pirate Events |

Amazingly I hadn’t heard of the event that draws 30,000 pirate fans over a two day weekend to the the Vallejo waterfront in Northern California!  Encouraged by a friend to attend, I thought this would be the perfect excuse to hand out some free Castaway Pirates promo pieces to some of the younger pirates in attendance.

For anyone else who has never experienced a pirate festival, you’d be amazed at the volume of people who live a closet pirate life!  Or maybe not closet!  The sheer numbers of people who made a much better effort than I did at dressing the part must have a spent a king’s ransom on some of their costumes.  The quality of the long, big cuffed coats, or the leather boots or bodices, is very impressive.  Many were wearing period costumes made up of numerous layers in the June heat, topped off with baldrics and belts full of rapiers, swords, pistols and blunderbusses.  Many ladies wore elegant cage crinoline dresses complete with period wigs.

It was wonderful to see so many kids in pirate gear, this was definitely a family event!  When I wasn’t being distracted by the crowd I remembered to hand out some of my samples!   I met many a fine, up and coming pirate who remembered the pirate code to said “please” when asking for a freebie!  Good on yer, mattie!
