Pop-Ups For My Next Book Completed

Posted by Ray Marshall on September 25, 2012 in Making Pop-ups, Paper Engineering, Pop-Up Books |

I’ve been working away all summer on my next book and I now have all the spreads ready for costing.  I’m sure we’ll be making some changes along the way but I’m very excited about the way it’s turning out.  That’s the good news.  The bad news is that won’t be in the stores for quite a while yet.  More on that later.

  • dear mr. marshall, in 1983, visiting london, to see my parents, i bought for my 2 kiddies, an unusually complex pop-up book. i know now that ”the dragon and the dumper truck” was a first [early?] pop-up. my kids loved it, almost to death. my grand children love it no less. i have spent hours trying to repair the damages, occasionally succeeding with difficulty.
i have copied some of the construction mechnisms in plasticized cardboard, but i can’t place them as needed. i cannot fix the page where the dragon crowns the queen, which is sad. i have the dragon, and his jointed arm is still bending nicely at the elbow. his ”hand” is not connected to the the rest of the picture either. i am a retired physician, so i get some of the moving mechanics. i can’t ”picture” how the hidden parts looked however. any offers of advice? i look forward to seeing the new book on popups you mention, so i can try something myself. i hope it will be soon, as i am not getting any younger. yours hopefully, linda
